Dear God, Where Do You Rest?

I wish you would come around again

into my world

and through this bend.

I wrote you a thousand letters,

each one captured and held

with your fetters.

Each one returned

with no way to know

how this will play out

or who ends the show.

I wish you would read my thoughts

in time and in turn,

casting your lots.

I don’t want the bet to be over at all.

I want to kiss the rain again

without such a fall.

I want to dance in your music

and swim in your chords.

I want to remember your taste

on my tongue, the sweetest of lords.

I want to stay up til dawn

chattering away

on the dew swept lawns.

I forgave your absence

but I want you back.

I want to laugh until it’s over

til there’s nothing but slack

on your sides and in your voice.

I don’t like the harsh words

that you now shout by choice.

You once crept into my heart

and stayed for a while.

You made me laugh

with the heartiest of smiles.

I have given you my life

and laid down my crowns.

At your feet to beg

for forgiveness

and to float in and drown.

I wished on a star

and spoke with the moon.

I want to know if you’re still there

but the timing is too soon.

As patience as my guide

I watch the seeds of dandelions

blowing in the breeze.

It’s enough of a wish

to make time freeze.

We had a good run

at the time I was young.

I wrestled your words,

absorbing them deep in my lungs.

I glanced at the sky

and knew you were there.

That was a long time ago

when my hopes were still fair.

Where have you gone,

I whisper and shout.

There were pages in my journal

full of anger and doubt.

I ripped them up one by one,

throwing them in the fire

so the embers

singed them like the sun.

I wish you would come around again

into my world

and through this bend.

I wrote you a thousand letters,

each one captured and held

in your fetters.

Each one returned

with no way to know

how this will play out

or who ends the show.

Is it a sign of free will

or destiny in its wings?

I have met many soul mates

and had my last fling.

Dear God,

Where do you rest?

I missed you

and wrote you letters,

wishing you

nothing but the best.

Each one returned

with no way to know

how this will play out

or who ends the show.
