I Wish I Could Go With You

We sat in a room without ceilings

looking up at the stars

watching our getaways

unfolding before our scars.

I wish I could go with you, she said.

Pink hair and bright eyes

only a child she knew more than we fled.

We navigated an elevator

with boxing bags and skis

EVERLAST they said

as they brought us down to our knees.

I wish I could go with you, she said.

Pink hair and bright eyes

only a child that knew more than our bed.

We dreamt of our getaway

a year ago and some time;

fleeing down the slopes,

it was a steep and treacherous climb.

I wish I could go with you, she said.

Pink hair and bright eyes

only a child would let us sled.

We are here a year later

but I am without you.

I fled myself into the wilds

hoping to find you among the Sioux.

I wish I could go with you, she said.

Pink hair and bright eyes

only a child would see us wed.

I wish I could go with you, she said.

Pink hair and bright eyes,

she was an innocent child

letting me go as only a mother could.

I walked off into the wilderness alone

Knowing full well I should.
