HIDDEN ELEPHANT

You’re the elephant in the room –

the hidden melancholy that looms

beneath the trees and life that stirs

into color that blends and blurs.

I thought it was all a tale –

how swift you move along the manic’s trail.

The hoarding of past haunts and troubles,

your memory serves to reduce us to rubble.

You’re a giant amongst the weary –

you enter the stage in their faded fury.

It’s a swift protection against the bold.

It’s a meeting of their match, so I’ve been told.

Six months of fury and fire,

only to be met with muck and mire.

Twice as long to overcome you,

and three times as long to decipher what’s true.

You’re the elephant in the room –

the hidden melancholy that looms

beneath the trees and life that stirs

into color that blends and blurs.
